Investing in public transportation, and walking and biking, could help the state attract and retain young adults. That’s the finding of a survey from the advocacy group WISPIRG.
Organizer Emma Fisher says they reached out to more than 600 college students from 24 schools. She says 75 percent believe its important to have non-driving options. Fifty-five percent say it’s more likely they’d stay in Wisconsin, if they lived in a place where they didn’t need a car to make short trips.
Fisher believes it’s a good time to talk about the issue, since state lawmakers will be working on a transportation budget. She feels they need to stop spending so much money on highway expansion projects.
