When people in Oshkosh rent out rooms on websites like Airbnb, they won’t face city room taxes in the immediate future.
The city is postponing collection of taxes on short-term rentals, while it tries to work out a way to avoid negatively affecting house rentals for EAA AirVenture.
City Manager Mark Rohloff says they’ll try to work with the state, on allowing exemptions from the 10-day threshold to collect taxes. He says the state law uses a one-size-fits-all approach that doesn’t work for Oshkosh.
The EAA has expressed concerns about the short-term rental room tax, because renters would need to get permits, and go through the process of filing room taxes with the city.
