Outagamie County isn’t in as bad shape as other nearby counties, when it comes to road salt supplies.
The Winnebago County Highway Department issued a statement yesterday, warning drivers that a shortage could impact road conditions.
Outagamie County Patrol Supervisor Randy Roloff says part of the problem is the number of storms with rain or a mix. He estimates in a rain event, they use enough salt to cover three or four snowstorms.
Besides on I-41 and Highway 441, Roloff says they’re trying to have bare wheel tracks on all roads. He says they’re using a mix that includes some salt on some of the lower-priority roads to conserve what they have.
Because of the small supplies in some counties, Roloff recommends drivers should pay attention to road conditions when they cross county lines.
