A lawmaker pushing to replace the Green Bay state prison hopes funding for the project will eventually be included in the next state budget.
Governor Evers said yesterday he won’t put any money in his proposal.
Republican Rep. David Steffen of Howard says they’re waiting for a report on the prison so it’s not unexpected.
Steffen says the study results are expected in the next 30 to 45 days. Lawmakers will almost certainly still be working on the budget then. Steffen hopes they can incorporate the findings in the final budget.
The prison in Allouez is along Highway 172 and some are calling for the redevelopment of the site.
