The sturgeon spearing season is wrapped up.
It lasted for the full 16 days on Lake Winnebago.
DNR Fisheries Biologist Ryan Koenigs says spearers got nearly 480 fish from Lake Winnebago, and more than 300 on the upriver lakes. He says the upriver lakes season was a little slower. The season there was 10 days, and that’s tied for the second longest, since the lottery system started.
Koenigs says totals on Lake Winnebago were down a bit from last year. He expected that, because the water clarity was less than ideal.
More than 12,000 people had a sturgeon spearing license.
