Appleton firefighters are crediting a sprinkler system for possibly saving children’s lives at a day care on the south side.
About 65 kids were at KinderCare in the 2400 block of S. Oneida Street yesterday morning.
Battalion Chief Joe Strauss believes having a sprinkler is like having a firefighter with you 24 hours a day. He says a cardboard box that was left on a stove top caught fire. He says there was a sprinkler right above the stove, and it put out the fire pretty quickly.
Strauss says it’s the second time in the past two months a sprinkler system limited damage to a building, and potentially saved lives. The first one was an apartment fire on Peter Street, on the east side, last December.
