The Vietnam veterans from the Fox Valley got an up-close look at how the enemy operated against them during the Vietnam War.
The veterans on the Old Glory Honor Flight spent the day in Tay Nihn and saw an elaborate tunnel system used by the Viet Cong to hide from and ambush American troops. It was also used as the headquarters for the 1968 Tet Offensive.
Action 2 News reporter Jeff Alexander is on the trip and he points out an example of how time can heal.
The group had lunch at a restaurant owned by a woman who served in the North Vietnamese army, she earned the Viet Cong’s second highest military honor.
The next stop for the vets is the Mekong Delta, where a number of them served.
