A youth sports expert is reacting to reports of former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy yelling at referees following a high school basketball game.
McCarthy’s stepson plays for Green Bay Notre Dame, and there’s video of McCarthy chasing after the refs, after a one-point playoff loss.
Nate Baldwin of the Appleton Parks and Recreation Department believes the problem with screaming parents has been around for 20 or 30 years. He thinks it gets more attention now because of social media. He says it’s also leading to problems recruiting new referees.
Baldwin believes people need to focus on the appropriate role of youth sports in society. He says that would solve a lot of the problems with what’s a “messed up system.”
