Governor Evers is now releasing a letter written to him by former Governor Scott Walker, just before the Republican left office in January.
His staff initially refused to release it, claiming it was a personal message that is not subject to disclosure. The Associated Press requested a copy…under the state’s open records law.
Walker told Evers to “stay connected to your friends who were your friends long before elections. They will keep your life grounded and positive.” He also congratulated Evers, and wished him well.
Wisconsin Freedom of Information president Bill Lueders called the initial refusal to release the letter outrageous. He says there’s no such thing as a “purely personal message” between two governors.
