A proposed increase in the gas tax would cost the driver of a typical car about three dollars more a month.
DOT Secretary Scott Thompson says that’s for a car that averages nearly 30 miles a gallon. Governor Evers is looking to hike the gas tax by eight cents a gallon. But he believes he can more than offset that by eliminating the minimum markup law.
Thompson says the DOT also plans to move ahead with the I-39-90 expansion in the Janesville area. There was talk about seeking new bids for the work. Thompson believes re-bidding the expansion could increase the price tag by seven percent.
