The Oshkosh fire department is holding an awards banquet for the first time, to honor firefighters and some community members.
Spokesman John Holland says they’ve always thought firefighters don’t need to be awarded for doing their job, but they realized many go above and beyond. He says they help set up events, and do other things for the community.
Holland says a woman will receive the Guardian Angel Award, for using sign language to help crews communicate with a deaf person at the scene of a fire.
The banquet is Saturday evening.
