Menasha will start a grant program next year to help people improve their homes.
Mayor Don Merkes says the initiative is called Strong Neighborhoods Menasha.
It includes $1,000 grants for minor painting and restoration projects, and up to $30,000 for turning duplexes back into single-family homes. People won’t have to pay back the money, if they stay in their house for five years.
Merkes hopes the program will create community pride and more stability in neighborhoods.
The city plans to spend about $750,000 on the program. Some of the money would come from a TIF district.
