An Oshkosh business group would rather have a wheel tax if the city is going to replace most special assessments.
The Chamber of Commerce opposes a transportation utility fee. It would be similar to the stormwater charges that property owners pay.
Chamber President John Casper doesn’t think businesses would benefit much from any change. He says most projects are on neighborhood streets. He says this could be a way to offset costs of special assessments of businesses in commercial areas.
With a transportation fee Casper is concerned businesses could be forced to pay for a larger share of street projects. He doesn’t think they’d directly benefit.
City leaders continue to consider a transportation fee or wheel tax.
