Appleton and Grand Chute are including vaping in their smoking bans, but the communities are handling vaping shops differently.
Appleton’s rule exempts businesses that sell e-cigarettes, so people can sample different kinds inside. Grand Chute’s ban includes the stores.
Appleton Ald. Vered Meltzer pushed for the exemption. He thinks it’s “irresponsible and cruel” to harm business owners and their workers “out of nowhere.”
When Appleton put its own smoking ban in place 14 years ago, the city also exempted a downtown cigar shop from the rule.
