The decision by Briess Malt and Ingredients to move production to Manitowoc means Chilton will lose one of its well-known buildings.
The nearly 120-year-old malthouse on East Main Street will close in one to three years.
Company President Ryan O’Toole says they’re landlocked and they wouldn’t be able to meet their production demands during a remodeling project.
The 25 malthouse workers will be able to work at the Manitowoc or Waterloo facilities. Briess bought a former Anheuser-Busch malthouse in downtown Manitowoc several years ago.
The company’s headquarters will still be in Chilton.
