Buchanan leaders are asking for advice on how to pay for road projects.
The town is holding an advisory referendum next Tuesday and voters will have three options. The board wants to know if they’d prefer special assessments a transportation utility fee or a property tax increase. Town Administrator Tony Brown says town leaders don’t have a preference.
A two-year-old study shows nearly 52 percent of the town roads are rated fair to very poor. The town believes a special assessment could cost property owners up to $20,000. A transportation fee might be $210 a year for a single-family home. Raising the property tax could lead to a 56 percent increase.
