A person passing by and a police officer are being credited with saving someone from an overnight house fire.
De Pere fire chief Alan Matzke says the person saw flames coming from the roof of the building and called 911.
He says the officer knocked on the door and helped the homeowner, who had been sleeping, get out.
The home is at the corner of North Eighth Street and Oak Street, one block north of Main Avenue.
Matzke says they were called just before 2 a.m.
The cause is still under investigation.
