Arts organizations in the Fox Valley are looking back on the influence of an Appleton composer.
Ninety-five-year-old Maury Laws passed away last Thursday.
Fox Cities Performing Arts Center President Maria Van Laanen says Laws is leaving a mark on the PAC that many will recognize. He composed what’s called the “Fanfare.” It’s the music that’s played before a show and during intermission, to encourage people to take their seats.
He was also involved with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra. Van Laanen says he would give musicians advice on their careers.
Nationally, Laws is best remembered for his role as the musical director for the TV holiday classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
