More officers and paramedics are receiving training to treat police K-9s and other service animals.
Green Bay’s Pyro is being treated at the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in Grand Chute.
A state law passed in 2017 lets emergency crews use their skills to help domestic animals.
BayCare Clinic Doctor Steve Stroman says six providers in Brown County offer at least basic K-9 courses. He says they teach things like CPR, giving medications, and where to insert an IV.
Police say on-site medical care and a special supply kit helped save the life of Pyro.
Stroman says the law does not cover house pets so people shouldn’t call 911 if their pet gets hurt.
