Appleton city inspectors are helping to try and figure out what’s causing some settling on the Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley property.
The hotel owners are claiming the damage is from the pounding of pilings for the Fox Cities Exhibition Center next door.
City spokesman Chad Doran says the hotel owners reported having some foundation issues and settling in the patio area. He says inspectors checked it out, and they can’t tell what exactly is causing the problems right now.
Doran says they’ll continue to talk with the hotel owners.
Part of the hotel property was built on a former ravine. There are structural issues in other parts of the city where those ravines used to be. Years ago, people would dump garbage in them to help fill them.
