The Oshkosh school district is responding to the controversy over an article that was pulled from the student newspaper’s website.
Administrators are putting out a statement saying the staff advisor for the Oshkosh North High School newspaper posted and then removed the article. They say it happened before they knew the story existed.
Brock Doemel used a source to report last month that Assistant Principal Hans Nelson left suddenly after an order to close some bathrooms following problems with vandalism. The article was pulled from the website 20 minutes later. The district is facing accusations of censorship.
The administration says it isn’t pursuing the identification of the source involved. The district also regrets that the student felt he was being intimidated while he was questioned. The school board plans to review the policy for student media.
