Governor Evers wants to crack down on employers that don’t pay workers fairly.
Some businesses are claiming regular workers are independent contractors.
State Unemployment Administrator Mark Riehl says lawmakers want to protect both taxpayers and workers. He says those businesses don’t pay things like taxes or workers compensation.
Riehl says the fraud depresses wages for everyone else. He also thinks it makes it harder for businesses to compete when they follow the rules.
