A jury is convicting a former Little Chute High School teacher of repeatedly sexually assaulting a former student.
Forty-six-year-old Jason LaVigne was on trial this week in Outagamie County. He was accused of rubbing up against a student in 1999, and asking her to have sexual contact with him.
Prosecutors say she told a school counselor about what happened, in 2009. The student was a 14-year-old freshman in 1999.
Prosecutors say the accusations were in LaVigne’s school personnel file, and the district didn’t report them to police. The district released a statement last year, saying there was an immediate, full investigation when the counselor learned about the accusations. It says the district wasn’t able to substantiate any evidence of wrongdoing at that time.
LaVigne is also charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Marinette County in June of last year. Prosecutors say they were boating, and LaVigne gave her several vodka lemonades. They say he assaulted her, after stopping in a sandy beach area.
LaVigne’s trial in the Marinette County case is currently scheduled to start on May 22nd. He’s facing one count of third-degree sexual assault.
