About 9,500 uninsured children in Brown County took part in a program last year.
Author Mary Otto travels the country writing about dental inequality. She started when she was with the Washington Post in 2007. She says a boy suffered an infection from untreated tooth decay. She says the infection spread to his brain and he died.
Otto says about one-third of Americans face significant barriers to getting basic dental care. She believes there’s a gap between oral health and other health services.
A nonprofit called the Oral Health Partnership hosted a forum at Saint Norbert College last night to talk about the issue.
