Experts are warning about a scam involving a system used in Brown County.
CodeRED sends out mass notifications when there’s an emergency in an area.
Kewaunee County Emergency Management Director Tracy Nollenberg says an Algoma woman reported a suspicious call. She says the caller told the woman they had a refund for her.
Officials say CodeRED is free and Kewaunee County doesn’t even use that system anymore. They believe someone was trying to get the woman’s credit card information.
Owners of CodeRED says they’ve notified law enforcement and the FCC about the scam.
