Brown County Sheriff’s deputies say a two-year-old boy is “extremely fortunate” after a gun went off in Bellevue.
The boy was shot in the leg Monday night and the bullet grazed the child’s chest. Investigators say he could’ve been killed if the angle had been a few degrees different. They believe the boy got a hold of the loaded gun and it went off by accident.
The child was at a home in the Parkview Properties mobile home park on Bellevue Street. It’s against the law to recklessly leave a loaded gun within the easy reach of a child.
Deputies want the state crime lab to look at the gun before deciding to recommend any criminal charges.
