The Green Bay City Council isn’t renewing the liquor license of a downtown bar and restaurant.
Police made the recommendation for Presidente Mexican Kitchen on N. Washington Street, based on the number of police calls for fights and underage drinking last year.
Chief Andrew Smith says they gave the owner plenty of chances to fix ongoing problems, and it hasn’t happened.
Owner Marco La Porta blames a management company he hired to run the business. He says he put a lot more security in place, and he’d try to run the restaurant by himself to see if it would work.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms confiscated several thousand dollars worth of liquor that was being sold illegally at Presidente.
La Porta has 10 days to appeal the Council’s decision.
