Fond du Lac County is seeing a rise in the number of suicides.
The county medical examiner reported 11 suicides in 2018. There have been eight so far this year with six happening in the last month.
Tammi Kohlman is the coordinator of a suicide prevention grant in Fond du Lac County. She says people aren’t embarrassed about physical health, like breaking bones, but are hesitant about talking about mental health.
A community coalition called Comprehensive Service Integration is sponsoring free suicide prevention training. Kohlman hopes it will get people to recognize the warning signs so they can reach out for help.
