It’s lake fly season in areas around the shores of Lake Winnebago.
Chris VanDerSteen of Harrison hopes it’s just a temporary thing. He says if it rains, the flies will be knocked down, and then it’s just a matter of sweeping them up.
Swarms of the flies are blanketing homes on the northern end of the lake. It can be a trick for people to go inside, without flies following them into the house.
The flies typically live for seven to 14 days. They’re good for the ecosystem of Lake Winnebago, because sturgeon and perch eat them.
