Wisconsin is one of five states suing one of the leading manufacturers of opioid painkillers.
Attorney General Josh Kaul is accusing Purdue Pharma and its former chair Richard Sackler of lying to doctors and patients about the risk of addiction. He says their goal was to sell more Oxycontin and more opioids, and as a result, the company and Sackler made large amounts of money.
Four other states are a part of the lawsuit.
Kaul is asking Purdue Pharma to cover the law enforcement and medical care costs of dealing with opioid addictions.
