The family of a fallen Appleton firefighter is issuing a statement, thanking people for helping honor his life.
Driver-Engineer Mitch Lundgaard was shot last Wednesday, while he was on a medical call at the downtown transit center.
Appleton Police Officer Meghan Cash was emotional, while reading it. She says when Lundgaard became a firefighter, he swore to serve his community by helping people, and he died selflessly doing that.
Cash says family members have seen in the past few days how many lives were impacted by Lundgaard’s service to the community. She says it brings them comfort…during this difficult time.
Lundgaard spent 14 years on the Appleton department.
