The head of a downtown Appleton business group feels a sense of anticipation while crews work on the outside of the Gabriel Furniture building.
They’re removing the false facade to reveal the exterior of the original building.
Jennifer Stephany is the executive director of Appleton Downtown Incorporated, and she sees the building as iconic in the downtown.
Stephany says unfortunately, they’ll lose the mural that’s on the side of the building. But she says the artist and contractor are working together to see if there’s any way to cut out the butterflies in chunks, so something else can be done with them.
The former store along College Avenue will become the Gabriel Lofts, with 21 apartments.
