Two housing projects in downtown Appleton are clearing their first hurdle.
The city’s community and economic development committee is unanimously approving development agreements.
One project would replace a former bank, next to the History Museum at the Castle, with a six-story building with apartments and retail space on the first floor.
The other calls for tearing down three buildings behind Heid Music. Deputy Community Development Director Monica Stage says the developer is proposing 36 multi-family housing units.
The city would provide TIF incentives to help pay for the two projects. They’re considered “pay as you go” so the buildings have to be valued at specific amounts in order for the developers to get the funding.
The city council could take up the projects next month.
