Governor Evers wants to cut down on the use of some harmful chemicals.
He was in Green Bay today to support a bill that would let the DNR create standards for PFAs. They’re found in household products and firefighting foam. They can cause health issues like cancer, immune system problems, and low birth weights.
The proposal comes after a firefighter foam manufacturer in the Town of Peshtigo contaminated a number of wells.
There’s another proposal from two Republican lawmakers to ban the use of firefighting foam with PFAs unless there’s an emergency. Senator Rob Cowles of Allouez and Representative John Nygren of Marinette would also let firefighters use it for training if they work with the DNR.
