Once the new Calumet County jail opens in about two years, the county will tear apart the current one.
County Administrator Todd Romanesko says they included funding in the $35 million project to remove the cells, and clear everything else out. He says the county board will eventually have to decide what to do with the space.
The board voted unanimously last week to build a new jail and renovate part of the courthouse. The new jail will be next to the current one in Chilton.
