Kaukauna’s new fire chief is now on the job.
Today is Chief Jacob Carrel’s first day. He’s a native of Beatrice, Neb., and that’s where he started his career.
He says he wasn’t actively looking for a fire chief position until he saw the opening in Kaukauna. His wife is from the city.
Carrel says several things struck him about the department, including the new station. He was also impressed with how the station has been run.
Carrel is taking over for longtime chief Paul Hirte. Hirte retired this spring.
