A report from the state justice department shows nearly 350 active rape cases were delayed by crime labs so analysts could work on the backlog of rape kits.
The labs took in more than 8,600 cases last year and that’s a 62 percent jump from the year before. They completed DNA tests in more than 5,600 of them. That’s up 18 percent.
The report shows workers spent nearly 5,000 hours on the backlog project.
