The leader of UW-Oshkosh believes Majority Republicans on the Legislature’s budget committee are taking away an opportunity.
GOP lawmakers are cutting a proposed funding increase in half. Governor Evers put an additional $130 million for the UW System in the two-year budget. Republicans on the committee want to give the universities $58 million.
Chancellor Andrew Leavitt says they laid out specific ways they’d use the money. He says they keyed in on teachers, engineers, nurses, and IT professionals. He says he’s disappointed they won’t be able to help those groups.
While the budget debate continues Leavitt hopes people will convince Republicans to restore the funding.
