The cold, wet spring is hurting farmers in northeast Wisconsin and around the state.
Winnebago County UW-Extension Ag Agent John Thompson says the weather is keeping some farmers from planting their crops. He says it is possible that less acres will be planted, and what is already planted is behind schedule.
Thompson says around the state, only 50 percent of fields are planted so far. He says corn that went in the ground around May 1st is about 15 days behind schedule, because it hasn’t been hot enough.
It was one of the worst springs for farmers in the past 30 years. Thompson says it was the second-coldest spring, and the fourth wettest.
