Police shot a man, after a long standoff that shut down part of I-94, west of Milwaukee, overnight.
A police dog was also hurt.
Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson says a DNR warden tried to pull over the driver of a stolen van on Highway 67. He says someone pointed a gun out of the window before the van stalled on the I-94 overpass.
The man told negotiators he was holding a woman hostage, and Severson says they eventually used gas to get them out of the van. Severson says two tactical officers fired at the man, hitting him multiple times, while he ran from the van and pointed the gun at the woman.
The man was taken to a hospital, and he’s in critical condition.
Severson says the woman tried to run away, and she stabbed a police K9 before she was arrested. The dog was treated and released.
