Elderly people in Wisconsin die from falls at a higher rate than any other state in the country.
The CDC is reporting about 14-hundred deaths of people over the age of 65 in 2017. Steve Schroeder owns an in-home elderly care service in Green Bay called Visiting Angels. He says many don’t take advantage of things like Life Alert. He says people think it won’t happen to them, so they don’t want to pay for the service.
Schroeder thinks the key to prevention is preparation.
Experts also say getting a walker or taking a balance test can help.
Wisconsin’s elderly death rate for falls is twice the national average.
