A Madison firefighter was one of the two Ironman competitors to die after Sunday’s race.
Apparatus Engineer Todd Mahoney was rescued during the swimming portion of the triathlon. He died earlier today at a Madison hospital.
Mahoney was a nine-year veteran of the department. He leaves behind a wife and three young sons.
Sixty-one-year-old Michael McCulloch of Cottage Grove died on Sunday.
Police say both men had medical emergencies while they were swimming.
