A bar in downtown Appleton might be adding bees to the rooftop.
McFleshman’s is asking the city for a permit, and the Wells Fargo Bank across the street opposes the hive. A manager is concerned that customers might get stung.
Public Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht says they have to notify neighboring businesses. He says since there was a complaint, the application was denied. McFleshman’s then had the option to appeal.
McFleshman’s did that, and the Board of Health signed off on the permit unanimously this morning.
The city council will consider it next Wednesday.
Eggebrecht says the Rye restaurant put beehives on the roof of the Copper Leaf Hotel last year. He says they didn’t have any problems.
Those hives were moved to a different location.
