The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department says a 43-year-old man is in critical condition, after two deputies shot at him last night in Little Chute.
Investigators say Jakeus Meltz sent text messages to family members, and they believe he was suicidal and looking to get shot by police. They say the family thought he had a gun.
Deputies found Meltz walking on Moasis Drive, by Buchanan Street, around 7:45 p.m.
They say he was trying to get away, and deputies fired shots when he made a movement toward his waist area. They say Meltz did have a gun with him.
He was treated at the scene, and then taken to a hospital.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation, because it’s a police shooting.
Deputies were looking to arrest Meltz for a domestic dispute earlier in the day, in Shiocton.
