Governor Evers says the move by Republicans to increase car registration fees, instead of the gas tax, lets out-of-state drivers use Wisconsin roads for free.
He says that doesn’t make any sense. Evers included an eight-cent increase in the gas tax in his proposed budget.
Majority Republicans on the Legislature’s budget committee want to raise registration fees by 10 dollars a year, and title fees by 95 dollars.
Evers says he’s waiting to see what changes the full Assembly and Senate might make.
