Brown County has about $40,000 to give to programs to prevent crime.
The money is comes from a fee people pay when they’re convicted of a crime. It’s $20 for each misdemeanor or felony count.
Sheriff Todd Delain doesn’t think a lot people know about the grants. He thinks school districts want to start programs, but they might not have the funds for it.
Neighborhood associations, schools, and nonprofits can apply for the money. The deadline is the end of this month.
