A proposal to provide more state funding to deal with homelessness is progressing.
The Assembly wants to spend nearly $4 million.
Republican Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek says some people still don’t understand there are homeless people in their communities. He says after a TV station in the area reported a story about homelessness, someone called and said they would stop watching. He says the person thought there were no homeless people in Green Bay, and the station was lying.
The money would be spent on prevention programs including helping people avoid eviction. The Senate still has to agree to the additional funding.
