The state Supreme Court is reversing itself, and giving the governor oversight of public school policies instead of the state superintendent of schools.
The high court ruled 4-2 that it is constitutional to require the superintendent to get approval from the governor before writing regulations and policies.
Justices decided in 2016 that the superintendent could act independently. Governor Evers was the superintendent then.
He says the facts and the meaning of the constitution didn’t change in the last three years. He says only the composition of the court did.
