The proposed increases in public school funding in the state budget aren’t enough in the eyes of the Appleton school district.
District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says while they’re expected to get an additional $3.5 million a year, they’ll have to make cuts or scale back raises for teachers and staff. He says the budget may work for some school districts, but it will leave the Appleton school district short.
The district expects to have to cut $1.8 million over two years.
Hartjes says they were hoping to give staff a two to 2.3 percent raise, but right now they don’t have enough money.
He says health insurance costs are expected to climb by $2 million, and that would eat up most of the increase.
