The Oshkosh School Board changes its policy for student publications.
The new policy limits administrative review of articles published by students themselves.
The change stems from a battle between recently-graduated Oshkosh North reporter Brock Doemel and administrators over his article speculating on what happened to a former Vice-Principal. He says the rule makes sure that students and the district are protected. Doemel’s article was posted on-line for a few hours before North administrators ordered it taken down.
All student publications will come with a warning that limited administrative oversight took place before publication.
